Serve Our City
Serve Denver
Led by our Faith in Action commission, we seek to connect our cathedral community with opportunities to serve our neighbors throughout the year.
We “seek and serve Christ in all persons,” loving our neighbors as ourselves, and we “strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.” Baptismal Covenant, The Book of Common Prayer

Service Opportunities
Second Saturdays
FIA (Faith in Action) offers volunteer opportunities on the second Saturday of each month at one of our partner organizations and cathedral grantees. For more information on upcoming service-projects, email Deacon Jack Karn at jack@sjcathedral.org.
The St. Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square
In 2018, Saint John’s Cathedral opened an apartment building with St. Francis Center across 14th Avenue for permanent supportive housing for individuals transitioning out of homelessness. Saint John’s members are invited to volunteer in a number of ways including monthly lunches with the Deacon, Bible study, workshops & classes, and caring for the rooftop garden with resident gardeners.
Love Denver Day
Each June, FIA organizes a church-wide day of service with several of our partner organizations. Parishioners are invited to attend worship before going out into the community to serve. Projects are on- and off-site so that people of all ages can participate.
Loaves & Fishes
Each July, FIA organizes a food drive to benefit Metro Caring. In addition to asking for food donations, the cathedral focuses on volunteer opportunities and food advocacy.
Giving Tree
Each December, FIA selects five partner organizations from the list of cathedral grantees to work with on the Giving Tree campaign. Holiday gifts and gift cards are collected from parishioners for those in need who are connected to those organizations. In 2023, we distributed over $5,000 in gifts to our community.
Grants
Saint John’s Cathedral makes grants to organizations to further the mission and ministry of the cathedral. The vestry has charged the Grants Committee to review grant applications and to make grants.
Community Partners
Meet Deacon Jack
As Deacon for Community Partnerships, Deacon Jack Karn oversees a wide range of activities, committees, and partnerships that strive for justice and peace in Denver and beyond. Specifically, he serves as the primary point of connection for all of our community partnerships, including the St. Francis Center and the St. Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square. Deacon Jack is the staff liaison to the Grants Committee and to the Faith in Action Commission.
