About Children’s Formation at St. John’s
Children’s Sunday Formation
Whether you are attending the 8 am or 10:30 am service, we have a number of ways for your children to engage in worship, scripture, and community. Our formation hour takes place at 9:15 am between our two morning services with offerings for children and youth of all ages.

Godly Play
3 years – Grade 2
Godly Play helps children form faith through story, wonder, play, and fellowship. Our trained teachers bring Scripture to life through visual storytelling and invite children to wonder along with the story. Children respond through art and play and share a community feast. Godly Play is Montessori-based and nurtures the spiritual lives of children by honoring the centrality, competency, and capacity of children.
Weaving God’s Promises
Grades 3 through 5
Weaving God’s Promises builds upon the foundation of Godly Play. Continuing the tradition of storytelling, children are encouraged to see themselves within the stories of the Bible. The stories reinforce that all people are loved by God. As in Godly Play, the lesson includes a community feast and prayer.
Children’s Chapel at 10:15 am
PreK through Grade 2: Room 101
Grades 3 through 5: Saint Francis Chapel
Younger children are invited to wonder together, while older children worship through an age appropriate Liturgy of the Word led by a member of the clergy. All children return to the congregation at the Exchange of the Peace. We focus on the liturgical year and broad Biblical themes. All children are welcome to worship with us for Children’s Chapel. Children who have already been in Godly Play will be shepherded to Children’s Chapel by Saint John’s staff and volunteers.
Nursery
Up to age 3
Our nursery provides a safe and stimulating environment in which young children are introduced to Christian tradition through creative play, song, and stories. Our nursery is designed for young children up to age three on Sunday mornings and age five for Cathedral Nights.

Each Sunday, Shea brings a deep love for children and an appreciation for their innate spirituality to her work at Saint John’s. She grew up attending an Episcopal church in Virginia before moving to Colorado to study at CU Boulder. Before joining Saint John’s, she served as a volunteer coordinator for a summer camp in the mountains. Shea looks forward to helping every child feel loved and connected to our cathedral community.
