Youth Group

The guiding principles of our youth community are the following: Spiritual Growth, Belonging, and Justice. Our central principle is belonging, so we focus on building a supportive peer community in order to help one another navigate the challenges of middle and high school. Youth explore how they see themselves within the Bible, but they also are encouraged to openly explore faith and doubt in a safe and welcoming environment. We also encourage youth to routinely engage in building community beyond the walls of the cathedral.

  • Spiritual Growth

Youth in grades 6 through 12 will participate in the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) curriculum, which is centered on relationship building. J2A explores the Bible through discussion, prayer through both contemplative and active practices, and theology through activities and reflections. Middle and high school are in separate groups so they can engage in age-appropriate discussions and activities.

Youth who are seeking Confirmation are expected to regularly participate in our J2A curriculum. Due to the structure of J2A, youth will go through Confirmation every other year, on even years. For more information, please email our youth minister Sarah Strand at .

  • Special Events

To further build upon the relationships in youth group, we host monthly opportunities for fun, fellowship, and occasionally formation. On scheduled Sunday afternoons, we will go out for fun outings such as bowling and ice skating, or we will stay on Cathedral grounds to play gaga ball on the East Lawn or sardines in the nave.

Please see the schedule below for dates and times.

  • Justice

To strive for justice and peace among all people, youth are encouraged to regularly participate in community service. On a bi-monthly basis, youth ages 14 and up will volunteer at St. Clare’s Ministries, which offers a meal every Tuesday night to people experiencing homelessness. We will be responsible for building community among dinner attendees by leading games and activities. We also partner with the Colorado diocesan organization called Young Episcopalians in Service (YES), who offers semester service projects and summer service trips.
