Small Groups

Making Our Big Community Smaller

In response to God’s abundant love we strive to share and build love beyond Sunday Worship. Small groups connect us as we journey in lives of faith together. They help make our large cathedral feel a little smaller and unite our community across services.

Below are groups that are currently meeting, which include descriptions and group coordinators. Please contact Sarah Strand, at if you wish to join a group listed below or if you would like to start a small group.

Advocacy Groups

Reimagining Justice

We believe that there remains much to be done in the continued fight against the legacy of systemic racism in the Denver area. We meet every month and are focused on repairing injustices stemming from centuries of anti-blackness and continued discrimination against disenfranchised racial groups in the United States. Read our mission statement here and our resources here.

Coordinator: Susan Ritter
When: First Sundays of the month, 11:30 am, in the Library

Migrant Interest Group

This group strives to offer welcome and assistance to recent immigrants to the city of Denver. Through connection and action we offer time and resources to those in need.

Green Team

We are loved by God who saw that creation was good and made all things holy. We strive to care for, respect, protect, and learn about creation. The Green Team explores and advocates for sustainable practices at Saint John’s as well as considers the connection of our spiritual lives with the Earth.

Coordinator: Tamra d’Estree
When: First Sundays of the month after the 10:30 service

Spirituality Groups

Centering Prayer

Contemplative prayer is a rich element of our Christian tradition. All are welcome for Centering Prayer on Mondays. Join at 5:20 pm for a brief check-in, then we begin at 5:30 with calming music, opening prayer, 20 minutes of silence, and closing prayer.

Coordinator: Dan Hurley
When: Every Monday at 5:20 pm on Zoom

Balance necessary is not only dependent on physical agility and staying upright as we age. This class is concerned with inner and outer Self awareness–alignment of body and spirit. It’s based on yoga –the simplicity of breathing, stretching and strengthening, but is also designed to help you experience your own unique being through some free movement. After 30 minutes of deep breathing and mindful movement, we turn to a deep guided relaxation in our chairs which naturally flows into a few moments of stillness where we may access God’s presence within us.

Coordinator: Bunny Low
When: Every other Wednesday from 4:30 to 5:15 pm

Daughters of the King

Daughters of the King is a worldwide organization of women who commit themselves to prayer and service.

“Empowered by the Holy Spirit, our vision as Daughters of the King is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others, and to become reflections of God’s love throughout the world.”

Coordinator: Maria Dameron
When: First Wednesday of the month at 7 pm, Room 209

Fellowship Groups

Wednesday Book Group

Bold conversation enlivens our faith and strengthens our relationships. This book group meets weekly to study books on topics relating to social justice, advocacy, theology, and welcome. We have an active and lively group that tackles tough and relevant topics from some of today’s most engaging authors.

Coordinator: Anna Wadsworth
When: Every Wednesday, 11 to 12:30 pm on Zoom

Sunday Book Group

This group has met for many years and covers a wide range of books, including Death Comes for the Archbishop, Hidden Figures, and Between the World and Me. For the group’s 2024 reading list, click here.

Coordinator: Diane Neumann
When: Second Sunday of the month, 11:30 am, in the Library

Joyful Feasting

A monthly gathering inspired by Jesus’ invitation to nourish community. We realize that many of our fellowship offerings are age-specific, gender-specific, or geared towards families. Joyful Feasting is an opportunity for cathedral members to gather beyond these affiliations, in particular those who may not have friends and family nearby, or those looking to build community. You can sign up for the Joyful Feasting mailing list here.

Coordinator: Sheryl Martin
When: First Sunday of the month, 11:30 am

Knitting Group

Crafting together has helped us build relationships and support one another. All skill levels are welcome! We have several skilled people who enjoy teaching others.

Coordinator: Sue Abbott
When: Every 1st and 3rd Thursday from 12:30 to 2 pm at the cathedral

Parents Groups

We offer several regular gatherings for parents ranging from brunch to spiritual discussions. Learn more here.

Stargazers is a support group for women who have lost their spouse or significant other through death. We meet monthly in a comfortable social setting to give widows an opportunity to share experiences, learn from one another and others, and build community as friends in faith.

Coordinator: Alexis Hertel and Mary Lynn Grover
When: The second Sunday of each month at 9 am in Room 107.

Affinity Groups

20s & 30s

Saint John’s invites young adults together for spiritual exploration, service opportunities, and social connection. This group seeks to navigate the realities of adulthood and the world through a community supported by shared faith and by one another. We gather for service opportunities, social events, and spiritual growth. More information is here.

40s & 50s

Our shared life experiences at this stage in life bring us together to socialize and connect with one another. This group is intentionally social and spiritual in nature, offering spaces to reflect on faith in this stage of life, as well as enjoy the camaraderie of Saint John’s 40s & 50s community.

Coordinator: Brelle Albert and Ben Wiederholt
When: The fourth Sunday of the month, typically 11:30 am, Room 107

60+ Group

Just as Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch,” we understand Jesus calls us to go deeper into our spiritual lives and deeper into community. The 60+ Group is a place to build community with people in similar life stages, and share the spiritual journey together.

Coordinator: Committee of members
When: The group meets monthly on the second Thursday or Friday of the month. Please email Sarah Strand for more information.
