Nursery

  • About our Nursery

Our nursery seeks to provide a safe and stimulating environment in which young children are introduced to Christian tradition through creative play, song, and stories. Our nursery is designed for young children up to age five* on Sunday mornings. Childcare is also provided for children up to age 12 on Wednesdays during Cathedral Night and other special events.

*Older children by arrangement with nursery staff and approval of the Director of Christian Formation.

  • Staff

Our paid staff members have a passion for working with infants and toddlers and are devoted to providing excellent care for your child. All paid staff and volunteers have undergone a background check and have been trained in Safeguarding God’s Children* and our own nursery training program.

*Safeguarding God’s Children is an in-depth educational and training program designed by the Church Pension Group for preventing and responding to child sexual abuse.

  • Sign In Procedure

Complete a registration form if your child is new. It can be found at the bottom of this page.

For each visit to the nursery, complete the sign-in form and prepare a name tag for your child. List allergies on the form. For a severe allergy, write it on the name tag and alert the nursery staff. Please remain on cathedral property during your child’s visit to the nursery.

Diaper bags and other belongings may be placed on the hooks and shelves in the nursery entrance. Please label all bags, bottles, and cups with your child’s name.

Our policy is to release a child to the adult who completed the sign-in form. If a different adult will pick up your child, please inform the nursery staff.

Snacks and water are available to your child in the nursery. If you provide a snack for your child, please ensure that it is nut-free.

If your child is crying, our general policy is to text you or find you if your child is inconsolable after 10 minutes. If you would like to be notified sooner, please alert the nursery staff.

Please note and respect nursery hours.

  • Illness

If you think your child may be ill or if your child has displayed one or more of the following symptoms within the last 24 hours, please do not leave him or her in the nursery:
    –runny nose or consistent cough
–fever (exceeding 100°), vomiting or diarrhea
–contagious disease rashes, or eye infections

Since we are not capable of determining if a runny nose or cough is the symptom of something contagious, we have taken a conservative approach to minimize the spread of illness. The only exceptions are:
–if your child has been on antibiotics for 24 hours
–if your child’s runny nose is due to a confirmed allergy

  • Community

Nursery management is overseen by a partnership of parents on the Nursery Committee and the Christian Formation staff. We seek to build a strong community of parents of young children within the wider cathedral community. Sign up to receive the Family Ministry Newsletter here. We would love to see you at our nursery gatherings throughout the year.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Matthew 19:14
