The Everding Lecture
Saint John’s is delighted to welcome Dr. Kwok Pui Lan, Dean’s Professor of Systematic Theology from The Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Much of Dr. Kwok’s research is in postcolonial theology, which helps us to consider the impacts of colonialism, and particularly the expansion of the British Empire, on the historical context of the Anglican Communion and thus The Episcopal Church. How do the coronavirus pandemic, the national reckoning of racial injustice, and growing global economic inequality lead us to challenge the legacies of the colonial age and search for a new theological imagination for human flourishing and sustainability for the planet? Join Dr. Kwok and Dean Richard for this two-part conversation that will explore the impacts of our colonial history and what Jesus and the Syrophoenician woman from Mark’s gospel have to teach us about a way forward.
