Using a finger labyrinth
You can purchase one of these that comes with a stylus, so you may do it with eyes open or closed. Or, simply download a paper labyrinth by Googling labyrinth and clicking on Images to find one you like. Instead of walking it, trace it with your finger.

Summertime Spirituality for Parents and Children together
1. This summer, our e-weekly will include summertime ideas
for parents and children to do together. Look for Summertime units 1 through 4 and enjoy...when YOU can make time together as a family.

2. Set up a time when you will sit and listen to prayasyougo.org and make a place for the children to work quietly with art materials. There is music, the reading and questions. They can listen with you, and with art materials at hand, wait for God to give them a good idea of what to create.

The Wilderness meets 6 p.m. Sundays

In September of 2007, the Cathedral launched a new initiative: a 6 pm Sunday Eucharist called the Wilderness. Meant to be a creative combination of the ancient and the contemporary, the Wilderness, we hoped, would offer a contemplative experience of holy rest in the midst of a hectic world. The response has amazed us. Each week, more than 100 people gather for worship at the Wilderness. Some are Cathedral members, but many are completely new to this, or any church. They are drawn by the contemplative music, or the pictures on the large screen, by the icons, or the candlelight. They find a moving liturgy, created anew each season, and a sense of welcome that begins with the open doors, and continues after the service in a local pub. A wonderful group of dedicated volunteers helps insure that the Wilderness happens, week after week.
As we begin a new year of the Wilderness, we will be exploring what it means to be a Wilderness community. And we will be finding ways to refresh our worship, and push it in even more fruitful directions. In October, we started a new season, dedicated to the theme of the Creation. Come join us as we explore in prayer the intersection between the Earth, its Creator, and our role as stewards of this fragile planet. The season started around Saint Francis day, and will conclude when Advent begins, at the end of November.

Practicing The Way

We believe people are hungry for meaning, for a place to learn, to connect with others and share their stories, and for support at turning points in their lives.

"Vine and Branches" is the banner under which we offer many educational and spiritual activities on Sunday and during the week, mornings, afternoons and evenings. The "vine" is our prayer and worship, the center of our lives. The many "branches" growing from the central vine are the classes, groups, and programs that help us to grow together and respond in the world with love, compassion and respect. We seek to live as a true "Community in Christ," transformed and empowered through our individual formation and our work together.

For children there are mid-week and Sunday Christian education classes to challenge and engage young hearts and minds. Youth groups combine learning, service and fun within a tight-knit community.

For adults, we offer the Catechumenate, an introduction to the Christian life, and many other classes to suit various interests and learning styles. Small groups meet to practice centering prayer, to discuss Christian books and topics, to "pray the scriptures," or to engage in creative projects.

Explore our offerings and discover the place where you would like to connect.

Saint John's Garths become Quiet Gardens

Thanks to an idea presented at a Parish Council meeting, Saint John's garths will be designated Quiet Gardens, and Saint John's garths became a member of The Quiet Garden Movement, a worldwide organization based in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire, England.

The primary vision of The Quiet Garden Movement is to resource a network of local opportunities for prayer, silence, reflection and the appreciation of beauty; for learning about Christian life and spirituality; and for experiencing creativity and healing in the context of God's love. The ministry began in 1992 when the first Quiet Garden opened in Stroke Poges. It was the vision of the founder director, the Rev. Philip D. Roderick, a prist. This vision caught the imagination of others and soon more Quiet Gardens followed. There are now Quiet Gardens and Quiet Spaces in the United Kingdom, Europe, North and South America, India, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Quiet gardens are situated in urban, suburban and rural environments; these spaces may be offered permanently or for a limited period. For more information about The Quiet Garden Movement and to locate Quiet Gardens, go to the website: www.quietgarden.co.uk
