Call for Vestry Nominations: In January, the congregation will elect four new members of the vestry for three year terms. The Vestry is the governing body of our parish and, in partnership with the clergy and lay staff, is responsible for creating, articulating and sustaining the mission and vision of the parish. We will also elect a Junior Warden. If you wish to put forward your name or the name of another for consideration by the Nominating Committee, please complete a Vestry Nomination form. Forms are available in the Welcome Center and at www.sjcathedral.org and may be submitted by email to VestryNominations@sjcathedral.org or by placing the form in a sealed envelope in the Senior Wardens mailbox in the Welcome Center. All nominations must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Oct. 8, 2010.

Bishop Swing to preach
Invitation to dinner Sept. 19 with Bishop Swing of United Religions Initiative
You are invited to an interfaith evening with Bishop William E. Swing, founder of the United Religions Initiative, a unique global peacebuilding organization now in 77 countries.
The evening begins Sept. 19 with Evensong at 3:30 p.m. at Saint John's Cathedral, followed by a reception in the White Garth at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be held in Dagwell Hall at 5:30 p.m.

Saint John's to co-sponsor mini-golf tourney
Saint John's Cathedral will co-sponsor Miniature Golf Tournament hosted by the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition on Sept. 16 at Kennedy Golf Course in Aurora.
"Members of the faith community have been very supportive of our mission and we hope they will join us for this celebratory event," says Executive Director Christie Donner.
"The Cathedral hosted a wonderful program last fall to highlight the plight of women in prison, and we are particularly grateful to the many people of faith who worked with us this year to forge changes to Colorado law that will improve life for people trying to rebuild their lives after being released from prison."
Tickets to the Miniature Golf Tournament are $75 and can be purchased online at www.ccjrc.org or by calling 303.825.0122. The ticket price includes a miniature golf game, appetizers, dinner and wine.
SOAR will have fall trip to Southern Colorado and Taos
SOAR, a dynamic group of adults 50+, will travel to Southern Colorado and Taos, N.M. Oct. 1-5, 2010.
The trip will take travelers through South Park, into Alamosa for two fun-filled days riding the rails of the Rio Grande and Antonito-Chamas trains. On Saturday, the group will celebrate Oktoberfest with brats and beer while listening to an "oompa" ban on board. Then the group can browse the street fair in La Veta. On Sunday, the group will travel through some of the most beautiful sights in Colorado.
On Monday, the group travels to San Luis and the life sized bronze Stations of the Cross. After lunch, the group will travel to Taos, New Mexico where travelers will enjoy a barbecue at the hotel, watch native American dancers and then rest for a day of art and shopping in the quaint old city of Taos.

The Wilderness - New Service is a Contemplative Eucharist for the 21st Century
Imagine entering a semi-darkened Cathedral, with candles and icons all around. Some people are sitting in the pews, others on the floor, or in chairs. The simple altar is at the foot of the steps. The music echoing in this holy place is different: sometimes guitar, sometimes piano, with a blend of Taize, world music, traditional hymns, chant, and jazz. The prayers are from our Anglican tradition, but the liturgy has a contemplative, quiet, monastic feel. The sermon is sometimes conversational, sometimes a short film, or a slide show. After communion and final prayers, the community gathers for conversation at a nearby pub. During the week, those who are able meet to serve those in need.
A place of creativity. A place of refreshment. A place of transformation. A place for longtime Episcopalians and for those who haven't been to church in years. A place to find God in the challenges and uncertainties of life. A community of disciples. The Wilderness.
The Cathedral is offering a new opportunity for worship and community. The Wilderness. Sundays at 6 p.m. in the Cathedral.
