Liturgical Music
The Cathedral community shares a rich liturgical life, with well over 200 liturgies every year which require music. The music of our liturgy is our choir's first and most spiritual priority. We are dedicated to grafting, through our liturgical music, our spirits and lives to one another in Christ. The choir provides music for Holy Eucharist each Sunday at the 9:00 am and 11:15 am services (10:00 am during the summer months).
Evensong
There is also a Choral Evensong in the English Cathedral tradition on the 3rd Sunday of each month at 3:30 pm. Many people have come to value Evensong as a significant part of their spiritual lives.
Upcoming Evensong services:
May 20 - Solemn Evensong with Benediction, featuring music by Malcolm Archer, Herbert Howells, Gerald Finzi, and Francisco Guerrero.
Special Liturgical Music
QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE - Sunday, June 3, 3:30 pm
Please join Saint John's Cathedral and the Denver English-Speaking Union as we celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee in a special service modeled after the Saint Paul's Cathedral Golden Jubilee Service, with music from Her Majesty's Coronation, featuring G. F. Handel's Zadok the Priest.
Diocesan Music
Parish choirs are invited to join Saint John's Cathedral Choir for all Diocesan services held at the Cathedral. Choir Directors should contact Stephen Tappe at tappe@sjcathedral.org or 303-577-7726 no later than two months prior to each liturgy if their choir wants to join us for the anthems, or one week prior to the liturgy if the choir wants to join us for the singing of hymns and service music only.
Upcoming Diocesan liturgies:
June 16, 2012 - Ordination of Transitional Deacons
